Swanson School

The project involved the refurbishment of five classrooms, which included the installation of new flooring, Autex wall linings, fresh painting, and new aluminium joinery. Additionally, two bathrooms were refurbished, with internal layout changes made to one of them and new hot water heaters installed.

Q Construction was engaged by Swanson School to undertake the refurbishment of five classrooms, focusing particularly on the installation of new aluminium joinery. Completion of works in at least three classrooms was required before the start of the new school year, while the remaining two classrooms and the bathroom block needed to be ready for new entrants in Term 2. Work commenced in December, immediately following the end of the school year, with the removal of existing floor coverings, wall linings, and bathroom fittings.

During initial asbestos testing, asbestos tiles were discovered beneath the carpet in two classrooms, necessitating Class A asbestos removal and full tenting of the affected areas. This process was managed efficiently and safely, allowing other areas of the project to progress without delay. Once clearance testing was completed, work resumed in the affected classrooms.

At the end of January, the team focused on completing the first three classrooms, ensuring they were ready for teachers to set up before Term 1 began. The remaining classrooms and bathrooms were finished soon after, with practical completion achieved six weeks ahead of schedule.
