Q Construction created a standalone 4 classroom block within the existing school grounds, built with versatility in mind using low maintenance and long-lasting materials to meet the growing needs of the school.
Through a school led 5YA project, Q Construction completed the refurbished four classrooms and three bathrooms. This work included replacing the existing lighting with LED lights, replacing hi-wall units with new more efficient and reliable units. In addition, the refurbishment included replacing the decking, new Autex wall linings, carpet, vinyl and bathroom fittings. Following the removal of the existing carpet we found the flooring substrate and subfloor framing to be exceptionally decayed due to incorrectly installed windows. All damaged areas were repaired, the windows removed and reinstalled to ensure drainage holes were outside the building and the project continued without any impact to program.
As part of the LSPM panel works, Q Construction completed a large accessibility upgrade at Dairy Flat School. This project consisted of a large deck area to the front of four classrooms, concrete paving and drainage reconfiguration works to the front of another block, and the installation of a transportable Universal School Bathroom, all to be completed over the Christmas school holidays to ensure disruption to school activities was kept to a minimum. In addition, there were several other accessibility upgrades around the school that were able to be completed during term time with the use of site fencing and hoardings to keep students and staff separate from construction works.
Running these two projects concurrently reinforces our ability to have multiple elements happening at one time, as well as the capability to adapt in the moment to changes onsite, while keeping to the tight program.
