Air New Zealand Head Office - Podium Terrace

This project involved remediation of the Podium at Air New Zealand’s Head Office in Auckland.

This remediation project included the removal of; existing plants, planter boxes, built in seats, perimeter drainage channels, drainage outlets, tiles, tanking and screed back to the bare concrete structure on the exterior courtyard and ramps which formed the podium.

At the heart of the podium sits, ‘Momentum’ the sculpture representing significant events in the national airline’s history, Erebus disaster amongst others.  Q were tasked with carefully craning away the sculpture for safe-keeping – an undertaking in itself – and reinstalling it once waterproofing works had been completed.

Q then extended existing masonry parapet walls, structural screeds were laid to falls, waterproof tanking applied and this was topped with tiles and decking on a deck pedestal system.

The space was dressed with artificial turf, lighting, aluminium louvre wind screens, large custom shade umbrellas and a variety of loose furniture and planting finished off the podium to create a highly usable external space.
