Pacific Coilcoaters (Fletcher Steel Ltd)

Construction of a new Dangerous Goods Store and associated site works and services required to house on-site storage of paint products for Pacific Coilcoaters at their Penrose cladding coil painting site.

The new external dangerous good store was approximately 9.5 m x 9.5 m with a sloping roof 5.0 m – 6.0 m high. External perimeter walls were precast concrete panel construction with a concrete flat slab roof.

An external structural steel canopy offered weather protection over the entry doors. The DG store had a 240-minute FRR, with a sliding fire door and hinged fire door both with 120-minute FRR.

The DG store was set down 500mm below the yard level and sat upon an inground tank with drainage channel which together provided catchment and containment for potential chemical spills.

The site was a busy production facility which is operational 24hrs a day and 7 days a week so there was no down time for us to work around. We had to work closely with the client management team to understand their business and ensure works were scheduled at times that would suit all parties, even more so for precast panel erection and occupying yard space to set up mobile cranes.

Q are experts in working in live environments and this was one of the key challenges that came with this project.

We managed to carefully navigate the site logistics and ensure the client’s existing business operation remained unaffected.
